Local radio station, WPAQ 740 AM, has pioneered Bluegrass and Old-time music programming for over 50 years. The WPAQ Merry-Go-Round is broadcast live from the stage of the Downtown Cinema Theatre, 142 N. Main St., Mount Airy.
The WPAQ Merry-Go-Round has been aired live on the station every Saturday since early 1948, making it the second longest-running live radio broadcast in America.
Charlie Monroe, Tommy Jarrell, Fred Cockerham, Mac Wiseman and Lester Flatt are just some of the musical superstars who have played on the program.
The show begins each Saturday at 11 a.m. and lasts until 1:30 p.m. There is no admission charge.
