Mount Airy Community Receives “Best of Mountains” Award
MOUNT AIRY, NC (May 4, 2009)– One of North Carolina’s most unique residential mountain communities, White Sulphur Springs, recently received the 2009 “Best of the Mountains, Best Year-round Living” award from the editors and staff of Pinnacle Living Mountain Homes.
The community’s exceptional year-round outdoor recreational opportunities was a significant attribute that propelled White Sulphur Springs to the top of the list of eligible developments. The location, at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains, provides much milder winters than most mountain properties and gentle mountain breezes keep summers comfortable, allowing residents a year-round opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and the community.
The award represents the second consecutive “Best of the Mountains” award for White Sulphur Springs, just five minutes from Historic Downtown Mount Airy, NC. While the 2009 award was based on “Best Year-round Living,” the 2008 designation focused on “Best New Community Plan” recognizing owner and developer Burke Robertson’s vision to embrace and re-create the simpler life.
Featuring 92 wooded, hillside homesites on the former site of a turn-of-the-century resort hotel, the community encourages a lifestyle that embraces family-oriented activities and an active, fulfilled life. Its location in the heart of the Yadkin Valley Wine Region of North Carolina and its proximity to the Blue Ridge Parkway creates an ideal environment for year-round outdoor activities.
Blue Ridge Mountain views, hiking trails, a centuries-old mineral spring and the expansive front lawn provide the perfect backdrop for Arts and Crafts style homes and a “no-worries” lifestyle with little-to-no maintenance required.
White Sulphur Springs is located in Mount Airy, NC, which offers an abundance of entertainment, arts, festivals, shopping and state-of-the-art healthcare – and all the small town charm of TVs Mayberry.
“White Sulphur Springs isn’t just someone’s dream or a plan still on the drawing board. Most of our amenities have been here for centuries,” said Robertson.
The Ararat River, the still-flowing mineral rich springs, the 7.5-acre front lawn, views, trails and hundreds of native plants are just as they were when the White Sulphur Springs Hotel was thriving more than a century ago. Paved roads, underground utilities, view tunnels, hiking trails and Mount Airy white granite are in place awaiting the completion of the community pavilion with outdoor kitchen and fire pit, the spring house and planned rental cabins.
“You just have to visit to really understand how unique White Sulphur Springs really is,” said Robertson. “We are creating more than a development. We are creating a community. A return to a place and time when neighbors were friends and family was treasured. Or as I like to say, it is a Taste of the Simpler Life.”
