Downtown Mount Airy offers visitors a variety of shopping opportunities in a warm, friendly setting. A shopper can find most anything they need including Andy Griffith memorabilia, books, fine wines, clothing and furniture. The hungry shopper can also find satisfaction in the Downtown eateries. From fast food to a full meal, Mount Airy has it.
If you want to experience a little bit of Mayberry, the Downtown has the hotspots. Andy mentioned SNAPPY LUNCH, the oldest eating establishment in Mount Airy, on The Andy Griffith Show. Beside SNAPPY LUNCH, is Floyd’s City Barber Shop. Shop owner, Russell Hiatt, boasts that he used to cut Andy’s hair. Across the street from the barbershop is the Downtown Cinema Theatre. Andy Griffith used to watch live swing bands there, which inspired him to learn how to play the trombone.
