Halloween has arrived, and there are many opportunities in and around Mount Airy, NC to get in the spirit of Halloween with spooky ghost tours, haunted houses, a Halloween Carnival downtown on Oct. 31, and more!

Halloween Carnival – Nightmare on Market Street on Halloween – Friday, Oct. 31, 3-7 p.m.

Join us in Downtown Mount Airy for our first Halloween Carnival – Nightmare on Market Street, which will take place on Market St., which is between Franklin and Oak Streets. The carnival will feature a bounce house (small fee), pumpkin painting (small fee), free carnival games, wagon rides with spooky storytellers, witches singing spooky songs, a costume contest at 5 p.m., and a pumpkin painting/carving contest (bring your own carved or painted pumpkins, or choose to paint a pumpkin for a small fee at our Blue Rabbit Art Gallery painting booth. Old North State Winery Boo Bash on Halloween – Friday, Oct. 31, 9 p.m. to 12 a.m.

The Boo Bash will include music by The Groovin’ Band and dancing, as well as costume contests with prizes. Tickets are $11 in advance or $16 at the door. Proceeds go to the Mount Airy Museum of Regional History. Call the museum at 336-786-4478 to purchase tickets in advance. Old North State Winery is in Downtown Mount Airy at 308 N. Main Street.

Historic Mount Airy Ghost Tours

The Mount Airy Museum of Regional History conducts Historic Mount Airy Downtown Ghost Tours every Friday and Saturday night at 8 p.m. through the end of October. The tour is a 90-minute, lantern-lit walking tour through Downtown Mount Airy, with tales about 12 “less than mortal” friends. Hacker House in Pilot Mountain, NC

The Hacker House in Pilot Mountain is one of the top 25 haunted attractions, according to Haunted Attraction Magazine. Hacker House is an assault on the senses, and from entry to exit you will be startled, stalked, tricked, and teased
Open from 8 to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights through November 1st. Call the Hacker House FrightLine at 336-351-DARK for the latest information and visit the website at www.hackerhouse.com. Tickets are $15 per person. Hacker House is located at 162 Hacker House Trail in Pilot Mountain, NC.

Lowgap House of Horror’s presents Contagion

With proceeds going to the Lowgap Community Center, this haunted house is a great opportunity to support a good cause. The Contagion theme features a zombie outbreak with plenty of scary moments in the Old Lowgap School, which is now the Lowgap Community Center. The haunted house is open October 24, October 25, October 20, October 31, and November 1 from 8 to 11 p.mThe . Admission is $10 per person, and groups of 10 or more are $8 per person. Tickets are available at the door. The Lowgap Community Center is located at 9070 W. Pine Street in Lowgap, about 15 minutes west from Mount Airy on Highway 89. Murder Mystery Dinner at Harvest Grill, at Shelton Vineyards on Saturday, Nov. 1st at 6 p.m.

November 1 at 6 p.m. – A night of  suspense, accompanied by a meal prepared by Chef Paul. Help solve the murder mystery! The night begins with a glass of wine, then everyone will move inside for dinner. The menu features a cranberry and walnut salad with Riesling-soaked onions, sage derby cheese, sweet potato chips, and Riesling vinaigrette; a main course duo of cinnamon-dusted salmon with pumpkin vinaigrette AND  cider-braised pork belly with smoked apple butter and rosemary whipped potatoes along with roasted carrots; and dessert is a sweet potato funnel cake with maple drizzle and cinnamon ice cream.
