UPCOMING FALL FESTIVALS  October 1, 2016-Surry Sonker Festival at the Edwards Franklin House-1pm-5pm. The Sonker Festival is a Surry County tradition, presented each year by the Surry County Historical Society. It is held the first Saturday in October at the Edwards-Franklin House west of Mount Airy. Festival attendees sample sonker made from a variety of family recipes passed down through generations. Admission is free, with a nominal charge for sonker and beverages. Admission is Always Free! 1st Saturday May-October, 3:00-9:30. Live Beach Music and 5:30-9:30. Located in beautiful downtown Pilot Mountain, North Carolina, The Hot Nights Hot Cars Cruise-In's are family oriented events offering an open street cruise-in, live beach music, and plenty of food and beverage vendors. Local vineyards will be serving some great wines at each event. Each Cruise In begins at 3pm and ends at 9:30pm. Halloween Events  Historic Mount Airy Ghost Tours-(Remainder of Sept 2016 and the Month of October 2016) Historic Mount Airy Ghost Tours Friday and Saturday evenings at 8pm. Join the Museum for an exciting 90 minute, lantern-lit walking tour through Mount Airy's streets and it's historic past. You will hear about 13 of our "less mortal" friends and some of Mount Airy's resting places. Tours begin at the Mount Airy Museum of Regional History, 301 N. Main Street. Wear comfortable shoes and bring your camera and umbrella, if needed. Tickets are $13 (tax included) and pre-paid reservations are required! Escape the zombies trying to take your life as you run along the 5K race course! At the start of the race, all humans will be given a race "life" belt with 3 Velcro flags attached. Zombies along the course will try to take the human flags, or "lives." The Boo Bash will be held at Old North State Winery. The festival showcases our rich heritage, with food for the soul, music for the heart, and heritage crafts and demonstrations. Admission to the festival is free! The hours of the festival are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 12 to 6 p.m. on Sunday.The entire downtown area is filled to the brim with arts and crafts vendors, delicious food, and plenty of local music, including a main bandstand on Independence Blvd featuring gospel, bluegrass, and old-time music, as well old-time musicians jamming under a tent on N. Main Street. The unique arts & crafts of more than 200 craftsmen line the streets with many demonstrating their talents and skills passed down through the generations. There is plenty of "Food for the Soul" – country ham biscuits, collard green sandwiches & cornbread, barbecue, hamburgers, ground steak sandwiches, donuts, hot dogs, baked goods, homemade apple butter, candy apples, funnel cakes, and MUCH more, all served with hospitality by our local civic and other community groups. Saturday October 15, 2016-Cornshucking Frolic at Horne Creek Living Historical Farm-A traditional rural frolic featuring the harvesting, shucking, shelling, and grinding of corn. Cider making, quilting, cooking, woodworking, wagon rides, and traditional music featured, as well as numerous craft demonstrations. Wonderful products and gifts available at our Country Store. Adults - $8.00, Children 6-12 - $5.00. Children 5 and under - Free. Fee also charged for food, drinks, and some craft activities. No pets allowed. Oct 15-16, 2016 Shelton Vineyards 11th Annual Harvest Festival Saturday, October 15, 2016 10 am - 6 pm Sunday, October 16, 2016 Noon - 6 pm Admission is free and the event will be held rain or shine. We will have something for everyone to enjoy! Stroll through the grounds and visit vendors with hand crafted items and locally grown produce. Kids can enjoy face painting and the whole family can take a hayride through the vineyard. Relax and listen to the live music Saturday and Sunday while sipping on your favorite Shelton Vineyards wine.Will Jones Band will be performing Saturday, October 15, 2016 ~ 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. The Southern Express Band will be performing Sunday, October 16, 2016 ~ 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Food will be available for purchase from the Harvest Grill Express to enjoy outside on the grounds or you may dine-in with us at the Harvest Grill.
