Mount Airy Tourism Development Authority Welcomes New Team Member & Announces Role Change for Staff Member

Mount Airy Tourism Development Authority, the official tourism agency for City of Mount Airy is excited to announce two key updates to its team: the addition of a new employee, Jamie Johnston and a role change for Jenny Smith, who will now be taking on new responsibilities to further strengthen the office’s mission to promote tourism and position Mount Airy as a leisure destination and a destination to host meetings and events.

Introducing Jamie Johnston as Visitor Center & Communications Manager

We are pleased to welcome Jamie Johnston to the Mount Airy Tourism Development Authority team as Visitor Center & Communications Manager. With a passion for travel, tourism, and destination marketing, Jamie Johnston brings 25 years of experience in the tourism industry, including overseeing the Yadkin County Tourism Development Authority. In this new position, she will be responsible for overseeing the Visitor Center operations, managing group tours, attending travel shows & media missions, enhancing local partnerships, and promoting regional attractions.

“We are thrilled to have Jamie Johnston join our team,” said Jessica Roberts, Executive Director of Mount Airy Tourism Development Authority. “Her extensive background in promotion & marketing, event planning, brand development, data collection, budgeting and financial oversight along with a true enthusiasm for our area will help elevate our marketing efforts and bring fresh ideas to our outreach initiatives.”

Before joining Mount Airy Tourism Development Authority, Jamie worked at the Yadkin County Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development Partnership & Visitor Center as Administrative Assistant overseeing Chamber events and programs, event planning, assisting with economic development projects, bookkeeping and the day-to-day operations of the Yadkin County Tourism Development Authority. Jamie holds a degree in Office Systems Technology from Surry Community College.

Jenny Smith Transitions to Sales & Marketing

We are excited to welcome Jamie Johnston to our team and are equally pleased to announce that Jenny Smith, who has been a valued member of the Mount Airy Tourism Development Authority for the past eight years, will be stepping into the role of Sales & Marketing Manager. During her tenure, Jenny has been instrumental in managing the Visitor Center and group tours, as well as supporting the Downtown Business Association with event promotion and execution. She has also served on numerous committees and boards and will continue to be an active contributor to the community. In her new role, Jenny will leverage her experience to further enhance tourism efforts and focus on the development of the future conference center, working to attract groups and meeting planners to ensure its success.

In her new role as Sales & Marketing, Jenny will oversee social media content, tourism promotion, and the sales strategy for the upcoming conference center. She will focus on recruiting meeting planners, organizations, and groups, playing a key role in ensuring the conference center’s success and driving its growth as a premier destination for events and meetings.

“We are excited to announce Jenny’s new role and the expanded opportunities to drive tourism efforts forward,” said Jessica Roberts, Executive Director. “Jenny has demonstrated exceptional dedication to our mission, and I am confident that her new role will have a positive impact on our region’s tourism landscape.”

Jenny shared her excitement about the new position, “I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to step into this new role. The Spencer's Mill redevelopment has been a long-term project, and I’m excited to play a key role in the success of the new conference center as part of that vision. I look forward to the positive impact this will have on our downtown area and to positioning Mount Airy not only as a premier destination for visitors but also as a sought-after location for meetings and events."
